Perceptual Machines: The Architecture of Interactivity in Cybernetics, Cognitive Science, and Design, 1945-1965

Orit Halpern is Assistant Professor of History at the New School for Social Research and Lang College. She is also an affiliate of the new Design MA in the Art and Design History and Theory School at Parsons. Her research is on histories of digital media, cybernetics, art and design. Her current book project (forthcoming through Duke Press) is titled The Eye of Time and is a history of cybernetic, cognitive science, and design. Her published works and multi-media projects have (or will) appear in C-theory, Configurations, Post-Modern Culture, and The Journal of Visual Culture and at ZKM in Karlsruhe, Germany.
