My dissertation examines works produced from the interactions between Philippine and U.S. literary systems in order to develop a theory and history of realism in the Filipino novel in English as "remittance fiction"—or fictions of and about the integration of the Philippines into the world economy and the remaking of the Filipino as human capital.
