May 28, 2019
Kris Trujillo has recently been appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Comparative Literature at the University of Chicago. Trujillo received his doctorate from Rhetoric in 2017, completing his dissertation entitled “Jubilee of the Heart: How Monastic Song Became Mystical Poetics.” Trujillo previously served as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Theology at Fordham University (2017-2018) and as Assistant Professor of English at Fordham University (2018-2019). His teaching and research focus on the Christian mystical tradition, modern citations of the medieval, Latinx literature, and queer of color critique. His current book project examines how the genre of vernacular Christian mystical poetry emerges as a product of the ritual, embodied, and social practices organizing song in monastic and semi-monastic life.
