This course approaches political rhetoric in its broadest sense—as the articulation of visions for the future rooted in present relations of power. Today, these visions circulate with unprecedented speed and variety, making it difficult to trace the direction of political influence, or to fully comprehend what is at stake in claims to political power. Moving between foundational work in rhetorical theory and cutting-edge research in new media communication, we will work together to meet this challenge as it unfolds before us in virtual time and space, but with very real consequences to our collective future.
