Rhetoric in Law and Politics

This course will discuss the rhetoric of political and legal discourse in the context of Renaissance humanism, the Reformation and issues relating to the early modern state (c. 1500-1700). Although the course will deal with  European culture as a whole, most attention will be given to English and French writers.
