This semester focuses on narratives concerning “possible worlds.” These include the worlds of different animals and beings as scientists and others have attempted to grasp or imagine them. They include historical and future worlds, regarded as incommensurate with present-day worlds. They include the varyingly distant worlds represented in speculative literatures and calculated in futurist theories. The course will therefore look to materials across different media and academic disciplines, and in turn to varied conceptions of worlds within them.
