Congratulations to Fumi Okiji for becoming the 2026 co-recipient of the David Blackwell Award!

From the award notification:

The Blackwell Award is given annually to a recently tenured professor in the College of Letters & Science who embodies the values and aspirations of the College in scholarship, teaching and mentorship, and service, and who serves as an inspiration to others in the campus community.


The award is named for David Blackwell (1919-2010), Professor of Statistics, who was the first African American tenured professor at Berkeley, and also the first African American inducted into the National Academy of Sciences. He has an incredible history full of accolades, including the Berkeley Citation, the highest honor bestowed by UC Berkeley, and was a remarkable teacher and mentor. The awards ceremony will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2026 from 4:30-6:30 p.m on the Alumni House patio. (Please note that these times are subject to change slightly.)
