Nadesan "Nad" Permaul has been awarded a Berkeley Citation for 2025.
The Berkeley Citation is awarded to a variety of distinguished individuals or organizations, academic or nonacademic, whose contributions to UC Berkeley go beyond the call of duty and whose achievements exceed the standards of excellence in their fields. Although the nomination requires one recommendation letter from a dean and three letters of support, Permaul received an overwhelming 55 letters of support from current students, alumni, staff and faculty spanning more than six decades.
As a triple UC Berkeley alumnus, Permaul obtained his bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate in political science. He has taught multiple classes for rhetoric, political science and sociology, and will be teaching Rhetoric 152AC: “Race and Order in the New Republic” this fall.
