Angel Gutierrez

Bio:

Angel is a performance artist and researcher, holding a BA in anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania. Their research-practice concerns violence, land, performance, sovereignty-autonomy, communal governance, and trans life, amongst other thematics.

Angel’s lines of inquiry largely regard forms & relations which reproduce and resist relations of capitalism, seeking to think with struggles which trouble our dominant modes of being, knowing, and practice. Drawing on Sylvia Wynter, Silvia Rivera Cusicanqui, Denise Ferreira da Silva, and Gladys Tzul Tzul, amongst other Black, Indigenous, and anti-capitalist thinkers, Angel uses performance as mode of inquiry to explore-understand the relationship between spacetime, consciousness, matter, and politics.
