Nathan Atkinson earned his BA in Rhetoric at UC Berkeley in 2001, and his PhD in Rhetoric from Carnegie Mellon in 2009.

Before returning to Berkeley as a lecturer in 2017, Dr. Atkinson was an Assistant Professor of Rhetoric and Politics at Georgia State University, where his research focused on Cold War visual rhetoric. Presently, he teaches the theory and history of rhetoric more generally, though he maintains an emphasis on the intersection of visual and political culture. Robert Barrett earned his BA at Sonoma State University in Interdisciplinary Studies and English Literature, and his PhD at UC Irvine in Comparative Literature, with graduate emphases in Feminist Studies and Visual Studies. His dissertation, Fairies Wear Boots: AIDS, Abjection, Identity examines literature, film, performance, art and activism in San Francisco, responding to the early part of the HIV/AIDS epidemic (1981-1997). Nadesan Permaul (Nad) received his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. at U.C. Berkeley in Political Science. I have taught in the Rhetoric, Sociology, and Political Science Departments, upper division seminars and lecture courses that meet the American Cultures Requirement for the past twenty-three years.
